If you think of royalty, you’d imagine a palace and not a shanty. But in the case of Queen of Pop Madonna, that’s not the case. The singer and her director husband Guy Ritchie were given the royal treatment as they were showered by rose and marigold petals by residents of a crowded Mumbai slum in India on Tuesday.

They were accompanied by a friend of Madonna’s, Australia author Gregory David Roberts, who made the Mumbai slum his home in the early 1980s following his escape from an Australian prison. His story has since been made into the best-selling novel ‘Shantaram’.

Even celebrities are not immune to the cravings for the latest gossip. Gwyneth Paltrow even goes so far as to admit it.

She says, “It’s very addictive to see what people are doing and wearing and saying – and who is breaking up.”

She knows all too well, though, the dangers in believing everything you read. Gwyneth realizes that much of what is printed is inaccurate or is only part of the story. She is quick to deny any of the rumors that say her marriage with Coldplay singer Chris Martin is in trouble. She says, “We’re not into doing stuff in public together.”

Hey, who can resist a good gossip rag? Reading about someone else’s misfortune makes us feel a little better about ourselves.
