“Goodbye science fiction, hello epic,” seems to be the words coming out of Keanu Reeve’s mouth now that he is set to star in “47 Ronin”. Universal Pictures has apparently tapped Reeves to play the role of a samurai swordsman who, along with a band of other samurais, avenges their master’s death. 47 Ronin is an epic film set in 18th century Japan to be written by “Wanted” writer Chris Morgan.
Reeves is still fresh from the showing of his new movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still” which is a science fiction film about global warming. The movie, which was a remake of the 1951 movie with the same title, will be shown in cinemas on December 12.
47 Ronin is a national legend in Japan about the samurai code of honor which was proven by the band of samurai’s who avenged their master’s death on December 14, 1702. It will be filmed using a combination of “The Lord of the Rings” fantasy and “Gladiator’s” battle scenes. It was reported that Reeve’s role will be customized for him, taking into consideration his being half-Asian.
