The star said she was in talks to take the director’s chair for Eclipse – the third film in the series based on the books by Stephenie Meyer – but declined.
Asked if there was any truth to the story, Barrymore told MTV: “There is not – we talked about it.
“I just directed my first movie and then I got offered another one – it’s the greatest thing in the world.
“I am very honoured to now be a director and going up for and being offered other movies as a director.
“I’m now an actor/producer/director! How lucky am I!”
Eclipse will follow the second film New Moon and is scheduled for a summer 2010 release.
