Toy Story 3s Tom Hanks admits:
Saturday, July 17th, 2010Toy Story star Tom Hanks brings joy to millions of children as the voice of Woody – but he admits his own childhood was far from happy.
The Oscar winner’s parents divorced when he was aged five.
Hanks and his older brother Larry and sister Sandra then lived with their father, Amos, while his younger brother, Jim, stayed with his mum, Janet.
His father also remarried twice and constantly moved home.
Hanks, speaking to the UK’s Mirror newspaper, said: “We were always taking off.
“Our father was a cook who moved often, uprooting us.
“We saw our mother on holidays.”
He says it was as though he had three mothers, four fathers, five schools and ten houses when he was in his formative years.
“My childhood wasn’t a bed of roses, but it made me independent,” he said.
Toy Story 3 featuring Tom is released worldwide later this month.
