Pirates of the Caribbean star Penelope Cruz says you don’t have to be slim to be attractive.

The 36-year-old told British You magazine: “I would close down all those teenage magazines that encourage young girls to diet.

“Who says that to be pretty you have to be thin?”

She added: “Some people look better thin and some don’t, there is almost a standard being created where only thin is acceptable.

“The influence of those magazines on girls as young as 13 is horrific.”

Penelope herself admits that she is embracing her looks as she ages.

The Nine star said: “If I look around at the actresses I admire, they are all women who have not fought growing older, but embraced it – women like Sophia Loren or Audrey Hepburn… It’s a good thing to be old, because that means you haven’t died yet, right?”

She added: “The people who love me, love me for who I am.

“They love me for a mixture of things that makes anyone love another person, and those things will still be there when I am 40, 60 or 80.”

Former Ugly Betty star America Ferrera said she has not started her wedding preparations since getting engaged.

The 26-year-old got engaged to boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams last month but admitted most of their time has been taken up with Williams’ new film The Dry Land, which Ferrera stars in as well as being executive producer.

She admitted that the film, which is about war veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, ‘certainly is his baby, and I feel like I’ve been here to get to witness it’.

She added to PEOPLE: “It’s a little bit like he had the pregnancy and I’m holding his hand through Lamaze.”

Since getting engaged, Ferrera said she has done no wedding preparations.

She said: “If there is a scale between 0 and 10, I’m at like negative 10. I haven’t gone there and [am] not thinking about it.”

Model Daisy Lowe has reportedly been discussing marriage with her Doctor Who lover Matt Smith.

Lowe, 21, has been dating the 27-year-old actor on and off since they met at the Coachella Festival earlier this year.

The pair recently spent a romantic weekend together and it is claimed marriage was talked about.

A source said to Britain’s Now magazine: “Daisy and Matt have told each other they’ve never been this in love before. They’re committed to making their relationship a priority.

“Daisy says she’s never made a connection like this with any other man and Matt said he’d marry her tomorrow. A couple of months back they went through a rough patch, which led to their split, but they were miserable without each other and it’s made them inseparable.”

Avatar actress Michelle Rodriguez said she wasn’t shocked by co-star Zoe Saldana’s engagement.

Saldana, 32, recently got engaged to her long-term boyfriend Keith Britton after 10 years together.

Rodriguez, 31, who starred alongside Saldana in James Cameron’s blockbuster movie, said she wasn’t surprised by the news.

She said to PEOPLE: “She should’ve married him a long time ago.”

Rodriguez admitted she already thinks of them as married but can see why they are finally walking down the aisle.

She said: “Now she’s going to get a ring and fancy thing to remember it all by.”

The actress who plays waitress Sookie Stackhouse in the hit show has described kissing a vampire with fangs as “sharp. Dangerous”.

“Those things are actually really expensive and quite fragile! They are not toys,” the Oscar-winner explained.

Paquin, who co-stars on the program with real-life fiancé Stephen Moyer, discussed keeping their relationship a secret on-set, commenting: “We’ve always had a job to do. I’ve always been of the opinion that if it’s nobody’s problem, it’s nobody’s business. You don’t bring your personal stuff to work.”

The 27-year-old went on to admit that others may have noticed their on-screen dynamic.

“Clearly, Alan Ball, the show’s creator, cast us because we had chemistry!” Paquin told Self magazine.

The actress also revealed she had not seen the other hit vampire franchise, Twilight, saying: “I’m sure if I was a teenager, I’d probably love it.”

The Killer Inside Me star Jessica Alba has stopped a fan having plastic surgery to look like her.

Alba, 29, took action when she heard that Xiaoqing was going to have the cosmetic procedure to try and win back her ex-boyfriend who loved the actress.

However after hearing about the 21-year-old’s plans, Alba told an American newspaper: “I think you should never have to change yourself like that.

“If somebody loves you, they’ll love you no matter what.”

Xiaoqing, who is from Shanghai, China, then heard about Alba’s comments and said: “I think it’s great that Jessica is so concerned about me. Her words also played an important role in my decision.”

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks has told of milking cows and admiring Jessica Alba’s body.

The 35-year-old, celebrated for her curves, opens up in the latest issue of Health.

When told that many women admire her body, or consider it the one they most want, Hendricks says: “Really? They don’t say Jessica Alba? ‘Cause that’s what I say. It’s such a compliment, because of all those times, I had agents who were like: ‘You have to lose some weight’, and all of a sudden, people are celebrating it. It’s like: ‘Oh thank you. Thank you for letting me be me.’”

The actress also reveals another talent. She tells the US magazine that she likes milking cows – something she learned when she lived in Idaho.

“I’m quite good at it,” she says, admitting she misses the smell of hay and farms.

“There’s a trick. If you lean your head against the udder, it produces more milk, ’cause [your head] is like a calf.”

Hendricks also proves to be unconventional in other ways admitting that – not only is she secure with her body – she was once delighted that she put on weight.

“Back when I was modelling, the first time I went to Italy I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15lbs,” the actress says. “And I felt gorgeous. I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like: ‘Oh, I look like a woman’.

“And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, ’cause I loved it.”

Harry Potter actress Bonnie Wright said she chooses the wizarding film series over Twilight any day.

Wright, 19, is engaged to actor Jamie Campbell Bower, who has had roles in both of the supernatural movie franchises.

Bower, 21, plays the role of evil Volturi member Caius in the Twilight Saga and will portray wizard Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Speaking at the opening of the new Harry Potter theme park in Florida, Wright admitted her allegiances lie with her own film.

She said to PEOPLE: “Harry Potter all the way. Since I was [nine years old].”

Asked about her relationship with Bower, she said: “It’s great.”

Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen have been “taking a break” from their relationship for the past two weeks, according to reports.

The acting duo, who met on the set of action movie Jumper in 2008, announced their engagement in February 2009.

They are “taking about a month off”, Us Magazine reports a source saying.

The 28-year-old actress had been seen without her engagement ring recently, prompting speculation about the couple’s relationship.

When questioned about her wedding plans last week, the former The OC star pointed at her left hand and said: “No, no plans. No nothing.”

True Blood star Anna Paquin has an unusual ingredient in her diet – fake blood.

Paquin, who stars in the hit HBO vampire series, has revealed she gets a thrill out of drinking the liquid, but that the taste is unappetising.

“I get a kick out it, but the actual blood makes me want to gag!” the Oscar winner has told Self magazine.

“It’s kind of a sweet corn syrup, I think, with an aftertaste that’s less than pleasant after the 10th take,” People reports her as saying.

The 27-year-old explained: “In season one, they asked me if I wanted sugar or sugar-free. I was like, ‘Sugar-free blood? Sounds great!’”

Paquin, who is engaged to co-star Stephen Moyer, said that in one scene she had to drink “ravenously from Bill’s arm so I drank probably a gallon. Never again.”

“It only tastes like the latex tubes it’s coming through.”

Harry Potter stars Rupert Grint and Oliver Phelps took part in some karaoke at the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The actors took to the karaoke stage at Universal Orlando City Walk after opening the new theme-park.

Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the film series, and Phelps, who plays George Weasley, sang a rendition of the Beastie Boys’ track Fight For Your Right (To Party).

The new theme-park had its official opening last night, and Grint and Phelps were joined at the launch by Harry Potter co-stars Daniel Radcliffe, Bonnie Wright, Tom Felton, James Phelps and Michael Gambon.

The books’ author JK Rowling, who gave a lot of input for the design of the park, was also there for the opening.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart said she is ‘not worried’ about her next career move.

The 20-year-old actress is best known for her portrayal of Bella Swan in the Twilight Saga and she will reprise the role next month in the third flick, Eclipse.

Asked about her next career move, she said to MTV News: “I feel less [career pressure] because I’m in such a stellar position.

“I feel really indulgent, like I feel it’s really cool to be able to say: ‘I don’t know [what I'm doing] for the next couple [of] years.’ I’m gonna focus on being an actor. Like, I want to make movies and stuff.”

She added: “I’m not good at planning out my career. But if I was, I’d probably feel pressure, but because I don’t and I really just choose things instinctually, I’m not worried about it.”

Actress Eva Mendes said she has no problem stripping off on screen and said she will do “almost anything” for art.

The 36-year-old actress, who is appearing in new movie The Other Guys, admitted that she doesn’t mind stripping off for a movie role as it’s just part of the job.

Mendes said to W magazine: “I’ve never had a problem with nudity, but I don’t put it out there without a reason. I’m not an exhibitionist. But, honestly, for my art I’ll do anything, almost.”

She added: “I know I walk a fine line between being a respected actor and being what they call a sex symbol. It’s a hard one to walk if you want to be known as a real, credible actor.

“But I’ve never felt objectified. Nothing you see me do is an accident… I’m incredibly calculated when it comes to my career.”

Actress Jennifer Aniston will reportedly be killed off when she stars in Scream 4.

The 42-year-old star is rumoured to be making an appearance in the fourth Scream flick alongside her best friend Courteney Cox.

According to Star magazine, an insider said: “Jen will play a woman who’s killed off in the opening sequence, a trademark of the franchise – as a favour to BFF and Scream actress Courteney.

“The role will be similar to Drew Barrymore’s killer part in the first film.

“Scream has always been an important part of Courteney’s life, and she wanted Jennifer to be a part of the production.”
