It has just been revealed that Lindsay Lohan’s third studio album is going to be called ‘Spirit in the Dark’. The album will feature songs produced by Pharell Williams, Akon, StarGate, Bloodshy and Avant. It is also being said that the first single is not going to be the song ‘Bossy’ which has been floating on the internet. Instead, ‘Playground’ which features Pharell, will be released in radio in September. ‘Bossy’ was just a pre-single buzz track. The album is expected to drop on November 4. It is already being predicted that first week sales would be in the 900,000 range.

As much as it pains me to say, another actress is trying her luck at being a singer. The good thing about it is, this one can actually sing. ‘Hairspray’ star Nikki Blonsky is already working on her first album. In a recent interview, she said “It’s something I really want to nurture. My album will probably be a mix of Stevie Nicks, Melissa Etheridge, and Sheryl Crow meets a little Linda Eder. You can expect everything from horns to electric guitars, a mix of big band with a bit of rock-n-roll.” Well that doesn’t sound so bad. But then again, she said that she was co-writing all of the songs. Now that’s something I didn’t want to hear.

Danity Kane’s resident slut – I mean hottie – Aubrey O’Day comes out to support her new boy toy Jesse McCartney at Marquee lounge in New York City on Wednesday to celebrate the released of his new album ‘Departure’. The 21-year old Jesse and the 24-year old Aubrey were also spotted in each other’s arms at club Butter in New York City on Monday night. It looks like we’ve got a new celebrity couple on our hands. And can let me just say, I thought Jesse was finally doing something right when he came out with his new single but then he comes out with Aubrey and everything just goes to waste. What is he doing with her?

Despite not being able to conquer the top spot in the UK, Mariah Carey has garnered the top spot in the albums’ chart in America this week. She only came in at #3 in the UK with the top spot going to The Kooks. Her ‘E=MC2’ record had been projected to sell around 500,000 units in the US. As of Wednesday, it was reported that the album debuted to a pretty massive sale of approximately 475,000 copies sold. Congratulations to Mariah on that one. Now, the countdown is on to see how well Madonna will do on her first week.

Kate Nash hates being a celebrity.

The 20-year-old British singer, who was catapulted into the limelight by the phenomenal success of hit single ‘Foundations’ and debut album ‘Made of Bricks’, loves being a musician but feels embarrassed by the accompanying fame.

She said: “I can’t knock it really - I’ve chosen to be a musician because I love it. But I feel really uncomfortable with the whole ’showbiz party’ thing. It’s just not my scene and it can be intimidating.

“I’ll be in a room full of people name-dropping and schmoozing and I think, ‘This is doing my head in.’ I feel embarrassed when people are impressed by it all, especially when they’re older than me. It’s easy to get sucked in. But I’m learning to cope with it and I constantly remind myself that it’s not real.”

Kate Nash - who was named Best British Female at this year’s BRIT Awards - insists she stays grounded by seeing her family and close friends as much as possible.

She added: “I love sitting at home, watching ‘The Simpsons’ and bickering with my friends and my sisters. I love the excitement of being away on tour, but getting back home helps me hold onto normality. I often sit around wishing I was down the pub with my friends, talking about things that inspire me.”

It seems that a lot of Hollywood starlets are trying their hands on music. Or should I say vocal chords? There’s Hayden Panettiere, Scarlett Johansson, Emmy Rossum and now, there’s Leighton Meester. The ‘Gossip Girl’ star recently talked about her upcoming album and described what, or I should say who, she sounds like. “Some of them I just talk, I do a little–not rapping–but talking, sort of spoken word. It’s a little Fergie, a little like Gwen Stefani and M.I.A.” I wonder what those music industry stars will think of Leighton’s musical style. She better put up or they might take it as an insult.

X-Factor runner up Rhydian Roberts has, as predicted by many, signed a £1million record deal with judge Simon Cowell. After all the fuss that was made over the results to the show it is obvious it really doesn’t matter who was proclaimed the winner after all.

Rhydian, 25, aims to have a debut single in the next few months, followed by an opera-style album. They and future albums will be under the Sony BMG label, which has the rights to Simon’s artists. A source said: “It will be typically Rhydian – lots of fun.”

His first album may even be out before winner Leon Jackson’s. Leon’s album is not expected until late autumn as the artist wishes to work on his singing.

Watchdogs are still probing into claims that the results show was fixed and that Rhydian’s phone lines were jammed.

Nikki Blonsky and her younger brother Joey worked the green carpet at the ‘Movies Rock: A Celebration of Music in Film’ event held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday. The show will air on Friday, December 7 at 9PM ET/PT on CBS.

19-year old Nikki didn’t perform but she does have some plans for a musical show of her own that she hopes to take on the road next year. “I’m putting my own choral show together to do with the Turtle Creek Chorale in Dallas, Texas, on Dec. 16 at the Texas Philharmonic. It’s the first time I’ve ever gotten the chance to put my own show together, and I hope it goes well. The theme of my show is ‘Anything can happen, follow your dreams.’ I’m just going to be singing a lot of fun songs that mean something to me and hopefully will mean something to my audience. Then, hopefully, by the time I’m ready to take the show on the road fully, I’ll have my album out and have worked in songs from the album.”

After High School Musical stars Lucas Grabeel and Monique Coleman showed up for the Australian Idol finale, it seems they’ve fallen in love with Australia – or maybe not. They were actually there to continue promoting the release of High School Musical 2 Extended Edition to Disney DVD.

If you’re over summer and already into the holidays, you can rock around the Christmas tree with Lucas and Monique on ‘A Disney Channel Holiday’ CD where they sing ‘Let it Snow’ and ‘Christmas Vacation’ respectively. Co-stars Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu along with Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers and The Cheetah Girls are also featured on the disc.

Gwen Stefani is a doll. Literally. Much like many female pop stars of this generation, Gwen released her own doll line. It apparently has done so well that she’s set to come out with a whole new collection. The looks of which were inspired by the look of her latest ‘Sweet Escape’ album.

Now this is the right type of marketing. Go out and offer fans things with your name instead of having brands put their name on you. And just think, we can all get our mini Gwen’s to play party animal and get them drunk and stoned with Wino’s Double Trouble Combo!

Gwen Stefani almost faced the cancellation of her Malaysian show because of protests to her style of dress. Muslim students there had protested her sexy outfits and performances. The code of ethics for the country bans the baring of unnecessary skin. The show organizer has said that Stefani will definitely be covered up for the concert. A statement given to the Associated Press stated that Gwen would not have any revealing costumes for anyone participating in her show and that all local laws will be adhered to. Muslim students felt that Gwen would influence the concert goers with western culture and style of dress which was considered an insult to Islamic ways. The official guide for performing in Malaysia is that a female performer must be covered from her chest to her knees. This should be hard for Gwen, she’s gong to need to get a new wardrobe. Has she ever owned anything that didn’t show off her scrawny frame? I don’t recall so.

The key to selling more albums is to reach out to more fans. Enrique Iglesias did it some time ago and now, Hilary Duff followed his footsteps.

Hilary played a short set at West Hollywood gay club Popstarz over the weekend. She performed two songs from her latest album for the packed dance floor seemingly filled with Hilary fans. The club was at twice its normal capacity for a Friday night as Hilary’s fans made like sardines in a can and paid the $15 cover charge just to see Hilary shake her thing around the stage for less than 10 minutes.

Sounds like Britney.

Kelly Clarkson may be an American Idol alum already but that doesn’t mean she’s free from the crabby rants and raves of Simon Cowell. Simon has turned his sharp tongue on Kelly due to her ongoing feud with Sony/BMG boss Clive Davis. And he is firmly on Clive’s side.

Kelly recently told the press about she understands that an 80-year old wouldn’t like her album. In Clive’s defense, Simon says that Clive isn’t 80 but if he is, he still has a better grasp of the music business than 99 percent of the people in the industry that are in their 20s, 30s or 40s. ‘He is the boss of the record company, and it’s his job to advise’.

Compared to his other musings, that’s pretty tame. And actually, it’s well on the money.

The world’s most famous “Promiscuous” singer is about to be made an honest woman by a Loose sound engineer.

Nelly Furtado has gotten engaged to Demacio “Demo” Castellon, who engineered her 2006 hit album.

Preeminent hip-hop producer and close pal Timbaland, who also worked with Furtado on last year’s Loose, most notably the hit single “Promiscuous,” confirmed the betrothal to People, giving the magazine a simple “yes” when asked if the engagement rumors were true.

No word on when the big day will be. When it does, though, it will be the first trip down the aisle for the hit making Canadian songbird, who has a three-year-old daughter, Nevis, from a previous relationship with DJ Jasper “Lil’ Jaz” Gahunia.

While the couple hasn’t offered any details of their engagement, Furtado has been sporting some serious diamond bling on her ring finger since last month, prompting speculation that Castellon proposed at the end of her tour.

Furtado and Castellon first met through Timbaland while working on Loose at the Miami Sound Factory.

A year ago, the Grammy winner told Blender that she had a “secret boyfriend” of eight months, adding that it was “nobody famous or anything” and that she wanted to keep the relationship private.

“I just don’t really talk about it,” she told the music mag.

Hey hey you you, I think you stole my song.

Avril Lavigne has got a lot of explaining to do. The Canadian poser, I mean, punk princess has angered a few songwriters with her copycat ways. Chantal Kreviazuk is one of few that have spoken out on it claiming that one of the songs on Avril’s ‘The Best Damn Thing’ album is one that she sent to the singer two years ago. But if you look at the track listing, Chantal’s name is nowhere to be found. Chantal even finds it funny that Avril claims to be a songwriter when she doesn’t really sit and write songs on her own.

More recently, Rubinoos founding member Tommy Dunbar that Avril’s ‘Girlfriend’ sounds very much like the band’s 70s hit ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’.

If proven to be a copycat, Avril may stand to lose big bucks and whatever respect for her is left.
