American Idol

Reese Witherspoon for American Idol

Reese Witherspoon paid a visit to the New Orleans Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School where at-risk children have the chance to become community leaders. The actress’s experience will air on the American Idol special ‘Idol Gives Back’ on April 9 on FOX. Of the experience, Reese said “Once you have children in your life, you can no longer close your eyes to people… who are in a similar situation.”

The American Idol special raised over $75 million for charity last year. Here’s to hoping that they will be able to raise more money to help more people this year.

High School Musical Christmas

After High School Musical stars Lucas Grabeel and Monique Coleman showed up for the Australian Idol finale, it seems they’ve fallen in love with Australia – or maybe not. They were actually there to continue promoting the release of High School Musical 2 Extended Edition to Disney DVD.

If you’re over summer and already into the holidays, you can rock around the Christmas tree with Lucas and Monique on ‘A Disney Channel Holiday’ CD where they sing ‘Let it Snow’ and ‘Christmas Vacation’ respectively. Co-stars Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu along with Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers and The Cheetah Girls are also featured on the disc.

Carrie Underwood Keeps it Cute

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood has always been cute as a bunny and she’s keeping it that way when she came out in a pink confection at the world premiere of the new comedy-fantasy-musical Disney flick ‘Enchanted’ which was held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday.

The movie, which uses a combination of live action, traditional animation and CGI, will open this Wednesday, November 21. As for why Carrie was there, the American Idol alum actually sang a song on the movie soundtrack called ‘Ever Ever After’. A video for the song has already been released where Carrie still keeps it cute.

Simon VS Kelly

Kelly Clarkson may be an American Idol alum already but that doesn’t mean she’s free from the crabby rants and raves of Simon Cowell. Simon has turned his sharp tongue on Kelly due to her ongoing feud with Sony/BMG boss Clive Davis. And he is firmly on Clive’s side.

Kelly recently told the press about she understands that an 80-year old wouldn’t like her album. In Clive’s defense, Simon says that Clive isn’t 80 but if he is, he still has a better grasp of the music business than 99 percent of the people in the industry that are in their 20s, 30s or 40s. ‘He is the boss of the record company, and it’s his job to advise’.

Compared to his other musings, that’s pretty tame. And actually, it’s well on the money.

Hayden Sings

Hayden Panettiere, the hot cheerleader from Heroes was seen rehearsing the National Anthem on Tuesday in preparation for the Fourth of July celebration at the US Capitol on The West Lawn in Washington DC.

Wow. She’s not just another annoying Hollywood celebrity that saturates our screens with endless shopping trips. I have to give her props for having more talent than others.

The Capitol Fourth Concert will also feature performances from Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth, former American Idol contestant Elliot Yamin, Grammy Award winner Yolanda Adams, recording legend Little Richard and country music star Dierks Bentley.

Happy Fourth of July!

American Idol Champ Jordin Sparks wants Chris Brown

The sixth season of “American Idol” is all over — save the Idols Live Tour — and while most of the world struggles to find a new reason to live (Tuesdays and Wednesdays feel so empty), newly crowned champ Jordin Sparks faces a struggle of a different sort: trying to stay sane.
“This is so intense. It’s crazy”, she laughed. “I haven’t been home yet since I won. I was in L.A. and then New York, and now I’ll finally get to go home and spend some time with my friends. I hope.”
Sparks has been on a seemingly endless parade of interviews and promotional appearances. And it doesn’t look like things will be slowing down anytime soon — quite the opposite, in fact. The show’s summer tour kicks off July 6, and Sparks already has a deadline for her debut album. That means it’s never too early to begin soliciting for collaborators, a list Sparks says includes a couple of crooners popular with the under-17 set.
“I’d love to do a duet with Mario or Chris Brown … but let’s see what happens”, she said. “I have a lot of work ahead of me. I have a deadline for my album, already. It should be out before Thanksgiving. And I’m going to be doing the tour and trying to find songs at the same time. And then after the tour, it’s gonna be record, record, record, write, write, write.”
And just what will Sparks’ yet-untitled debut sound like? Well, according to her, a lot like … pretty much everything.
“I can’t really describe what I want it to sound like. I’m a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, a little bit pop, a little bit R&B”, she said. “I listen to Nat King Cole and Patsy Cline and Bon Jovi and Heart and ‘NSYNC and Britney and Christina and Justin Timberlake too. I want to mix it all together. I hope people like it. On the show, you had to be versatile. You had to do everything and twist it around and make it your own. So I’m used to being like that.”
And while the pressure will undoubtedly be on Sparks to perform on par with former “Idol” champs, she said she’s actually more worried about living up to another set of expectations: those of her young fans.
